Texture

Textures on the Tacoma Tideflats share a multitude of stories – including insight into life cycles, changes over time, and specific moments – and are shown at a variety of scales and origins. The soft sediments of tidal mudflats can mark the exact point where a bird found a tasty snack or they can show the consistent rhythms of water rising and falling on the shoreline. Metals oxidize and show a lifetime exposed to the elements. Freshly cut lumber is piled in large organized masses giving a glimpse into the amount of product that is processed and used. Mosaics made up of scrapped cars and metals show how material is processed to be used once again.
