Rhythm

There are a diversity of overlapping sound and sight rhythms on the Tacoma Tideflats. These rhythms can be derived from natural processes, such as the consistent lapping of waves on a restored beach or the ubiquitous chatter of waterfowl. They can be purely industrial rhythms, such as mathematical grids of piling remnants, consistent structures of armoring, or the steady loading of container ships accompanied by the warning beeps these machines broadcast. Or they are often hybrids such as the crashing of shoreline waves against riprap or gradients of rust on old steel boat hulls.
