A Note On Finding Site(s)

Last weekend we set forth on a snowy, sleety, and cold day to find sites that could house all of our design processes for the next 8 months. We hoped that we would stumble upon the perfect settings that could serve as charismatic showcases for all of the experiential/”thick”/etc inventory, discovery, and design that we wish to experiment with for this project.

We instead found that finding sites is awfully similar to shopping for apartments. Our romantic attempts at cruising around and trying to find the right place to nest organically, were quickly proven to be fairly futile. A lot more objective analysis (GIS is our next step) needs to be done before we can focus the net we’re casting in finding sites to employ this design process.

It was a moment of productive failure. We realized that the field recording, audio and video experiments, and other experiential methods of site analysis/discovery we want to utilize will only be augmented by taking a step back and beginning this process with more objective tools.
